Talkfest Spring - April 2018

Aim: To talk to the local community of St Helens about Mental health, encouraging people to talk about Mental Health and make a pledge of how they will improve their own and/or others mental health


Our third Talkfest event saw us out in St Helens talking to the St Helens community about mental health.

What we did

Overall we talked to over 250 people about Mental Health in St Helens, involving the third and voluntary sector, Local Authority, Healthy Living Team and Public Health. We also engaged with over 7k people online using social media at both the CCGs and partners, attracting national attention from campaigns such as Stamp Out Stigma. 

We went to different locations in the town including;

  • Co Operative distribution centre talking to depo staff and managers about mental health issues in the work place and services which are available
  • St Helens College talking to students and staff about their mental health and sharing what services are available.
  • SHAP and BME  community development services
  • The Job Centre
  • SAMS Military Veteran Breakfast group
  • The Hope Centre
  • The Deafness Resource Centre 
  • GP Webinar - Our Mental Health GP Lead Dr Laura Pogue carried out a webinar session with local GPs talking to them about the main mental health issues she has heard about through Talkfest and answered questions from Practice Managers and other GPs
  • Social media - High use of interactive social media messages raising awareness of mental health and 
  • St Helens CCG staff made pledges about how they can help to improve mental health in St Helens
At each of the locations and groups, we shared information about where people could find services and asked everyone to make a pledge about what they could do to improve their own or others mental health.
