St Helens CCG with St Helens Borough Council have together appointed Mark Palethorpe to the joint role of Accountable Officer for the CCG and Executive Director for Health and Social Care for St Helens Borough Council.

Mark will take up the joint position of Executive Director for Integrated Health and Social Care at the Council and Accountable Officer for St Helens CCG.   

Mark is currently the Executive Director for People’s Services at Cheshire East Council, where he has held the position for the last three years. He has over 16 years’ experience of working in local councils and has an extensive background in Adult Social Care and Health.  Mark has previously worked for Cheshire West and Chester Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council. 

This is latest council appointment as part of an ongoing restructure of its senior management team to help support its ambition to modernise the council and drive forward positive change. 

Geoffrey Appleton, Lay Chair of St Helens CCG said; “I am looking forward to working with Mark when he takes up his new role at the CCG and Council.  I know he is fully committed to our integrated approach here in St Helens and am sure his experience of working across health and care in Cheshire East will benefit us in St Helens as we move forward on our St Helens Cares journey.”

Welcoming the appointment, Council leader, Cllr David Baines, said: “I am delighted to welcome Mark and I’m pleased that St Helens will benefit from his wealth of experience and knowledge, at such an important time. 

“Mark will make a significant contribution to our executive team as we support our residents during these challenging times. I’m sure he will bring his proven drive, dedication and commitment to his new role, and help to further establish collaborative approaches that will integrate health and social care. I look forward to working together with Mark in the future.”

Mark will take up his new role in St Helens in the new year.
