Every care home resident in St Helens has now received their Covid vaccination.
GP practices in St Helens have now completed the first dose of all care and nursing home residents in the borough.
Care home staff were also vaccinated with mop up sessions planned as well as staff now able to book a vaccination as frontline workers at the mass vaccination site at Saints.
Janet Scott, a resident at Sherdley Court in Rainhill was delighted to receive her vaccine and Sherdley Court manager, Hayley, bought alcohol free prosecco so residents could toast the momentous moment.
The second dose of the vaccine will be given in around 10 weeks following updated guidance from the government's Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.
Dr Hilary Flett, Clinical Lead for the vaccination programme in St Helens, thanked all practice staff for their monumental achievement. She noted that the target this week is to complete vaccinations of all housbound patients while continuing to deliver vaccination clinics to those in the first four priority groups at Saints over the coming weeks.
Patients in the four priority groups are now all being contacted by their GP practice by text or phone to book their first dose appointment. People may also receive a letter from NHS England which offers additional vaccination sites including community pharmacies in Bold and Haydock as well as the mass vaccination centre on the first floor at Saints.
