St Helens is one of a number of areas to face tougher Covid-19 restrictions following a recent increase in infections - as a mobile testing unit is deployed again in the town centre this weekend.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock made the announcement today that tougher Covid-19 restrictions will come into force in the Liverpool City Region (which St Helens is part of).  Though no official announcemetn has been made it is expected that the new rules will come into force at 00.01 on Saturday 3rd October.

A mobile testing unit will be based in the town this weekend at Clifton Street car park in the town centre, WA10 1HU this weekend on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October for appointments only.

Symptoms are defined as one or more of the following:

- high temperature of 37.9 or above

- new, continous cough

- loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
